JOE HACHEM
POKER PLAYER:
Joe Hachem
NICKNAME:
Aussie (Despite being originally from Lebanon, Joe moved to Australia at an early age and adopted the southern hemisphere nationality).
POKER STYLE:
Aggressive on all hands.
FELT ACCESSORIES:
His catchphrase. Joe introduced the phrase ‘Pass the sugar’ at the 2005 WSOP championship final table to describe taking the pot.
TABLE MANNERS:
Always exciting to watch and not afraid to play the river with weak hands. Has an explosive temper and unpredictable playing style.
POKER BLING:
Hachem’s fan base does a lot for his bling status. A lot of support from the Australians and vocal support at that, remember ‘Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi’, has made Hachem a bit of a national hero. Rightly deserved since he’s one of only a handful of players to take a WSOP Main Event and WPT championship title.
RUMOUR HAS IT:
A rare blood disorder was what forced him into the world of poker semi-professionally. The disorder affected his hands which led to him quitting his main passion which was his chiropractic business.
FAMOUS PROP BETS:
Hachem doesn’t class himself as a gambler outside of poker believing it to be crazy to give the edge to someone else i.e when playing the horses etc. He’s reported to have said “I wouldn’t bet Carl Lewis $100 that I could beat him at a 100m sprint, even at his age now. So why bet the racing corporation that I can beat them when they know who to bet on and take a part off the top”. We know a few poker stars who would disagree with that line of thinking and take on Lewis in a flash just for the hell of it!
