TED FORREST
POKER PLAYER:
Ted Forrest
NICKNAME:
Nicknames have included ‘Professor Backwards’, ‘The Suicide King’ and ‘The Hitman’.
POKER STYLE:
Unconventional. Forrest is renowned for his play that opposes usual poker wisdom i.e. When it is standard play to call, Ted raises and vice versa.
FELT ACCESSORIES:
None. Forrest is deliberately ordinary looking which often means he is underestimated at the table.
TABLE MANNERS:
Calm and confident, he never gets rattled by his opponents. A quiet, nice guy but his demeanour is highly deceptive.
POKER BLING:
Forrest has 5 WSOP bracelets to his name having emerged over the last decade as one of the top 7-Card Stud players and most successful high stakes games players. He also owns one of Hamid Dastmalchi’s bracelets after Hamid commplained it wasn’t worth what the Binion family claimed. Hamid said, ‘They say it’s worth $5k but I’d take $1,500 for it’, to which Forrest replied ‘Sold’ tossing him three $500 chips. Always in the thick of things when there’s a prop bet going on Forrest is equally comfortable raking in $10,000 for a standing backflip as he is at the tables. as part of the ‘Corporation’ that took on Texas billionaire Andy Beal, Forrest lost over $3.8million and is said to have been chronicled as the ‘Suicide King’ in Michael Craig’s book about the games called ‘The professional, the Banker and the Suicide King’.
RUMOUR HAS IT:
Forrests topsy-turvy playing style works because he took a job as a dealer early in his career. It was here that he studied player behaviour and leant the outcome of hundreds of hands. There is perhaps no-one that has studied the game as much as Forrest. His in-depth knowledge makes him one of the best all-round players.
FAMOUS PROP BETS:
Forrest bet a number of fellow players at a $7000 stake that he could run a marathon in under 6 hours. With the deal made, he hit the running track at UNLV to complete the 26.2 miles. Unwittingly, Forrest took on his wager on the hottest day of that year – 115 degrees was recoded in Las Vegas and there are reports that the soles of his shoes even melted. None-the-less Forrest completed the challenge and claimed his winnings. Perhaps as refreshment he should have revisited one of his other famous prop bets in which he bet $10,000 that he could drink 10 beers in 30 minutes. He won that too!
